Tarot for Fools: Episode 0 Shownotes

Every tarot journey begins with The Fool — card zero of the Major Arcana. So it makes sense to start this podcast in the same spirit: a blank slate, stepping forward with curiosity and openness.

In this episode, I introduce my new podcast Tarot for Fools and share why I created this space. There are plenty of tarot podcasts out there, but I’ve often found they lean too far in one direction or the other.

Some are deep, academic dives into Western esotericism that can be hard to follow without a background in classics - I love them and they've been a major part of my journey with the Tarot (shoutout to Fortune's Wheelhouse) but they often go into occult symbology without breaking down the philosophy to make that information usable.

Others stay on the surface, sometimes giving entirely personal interpretations of cards that stray far from the original intentions of the RWS deck's creators. And then there are thousands that focus on modern (pop-)psychology interpretations of the cards or just repeat the 'standard' tarot card meanings without ever exploring 'why' this card means that or what else the Tower could mean when there's really no hint of a moment of destruction or chaos in that person's life.

I hope Tarot for Fools will be different. It’s part study journal, part reflection, and part exploration of the Western Hermetic traditions that shaped the Rider–Waite–Smith deck. But it always comes back to practice. What do these ideas actually mean when you sit down to read the cards?
